Background

This is the final of three sharks tagged in 2016 in Scotland and is spending more time at the surface than other sharks tagged since 2012. Since tagging, the shark headed south from Gunna Sound to Ireland, at which point transmissions ceased s the shark moved deeper into the water during the winter. The shark repeared some months later to the west of Portugal. During the spring (March and April) basking sharks typically begin a northward migration. This shark has remained off the coast of Portugal.
