Introduction
In 2008, The Center for Conservation Biology initiated a long-term study of Golden Eagles in the mid-Atlantic region of North America. In cooperation with the Golden Chase and Highland County Eagle Survey volunteers, we are trapping Golden Eagles in Highland Co, Virginia, USA. We plan to use the satellite data to monitor eagle habitat use in the southern Appalachian Mountains and learn more about Golden Eagle migration.
Project Sponsors
This project would not be possible without the support from: Bath/Highland Bird Club, Virginia Society of Ornithology, Highlanders for Responsible Development, Bear Mountain Farm and Wilderness Retreat. In addition, many individuals and bird clubs throughout Virginia contributed funds to the Golden Chase project. Many pledged to the teams that participated in the Golden Chase birdathon, held on May 17, 2007, in Highland County, Virginia.
