Partnerships

The success of seaturtle.org is attributable to its many partnerships with a variety of groups and organizations. Our ongoing partnerships are described below.

Marine Turtle Newsletter/Noticiero de Tortugas Marinas

seaturtle.org has been partnered with the MTN since 1998 and has worked closely with current editors Brendan Godley and Annette Broderick to make each new issue freely and easily available on the web. In addition, we are dedicated to making EVERY issue of the MTN available in electronic format.

Annual Symposium on Sea Turtle Biology and Conservation

seaturtle.org hosted the website for the 2000 Sea Turtle Symposium in Orlando, Florida. This effort included pre-registration and abstract and travel grant administration, all via the seaturtle.org website. This relationship has continued to the present and seaturtle.org hopes to bring attendees even better service and support in coming years!

Marine Turtle Research Group

seaturtle.org provides web design and space to the MTRG. Their website is home to a group of professional scientists and student volunteers dedicated to undertaking fundamental and applied research on marine turtles whilst supporting local capacity building and environmental awareness efforts necessary for successful conservation. At present, the Group's organisers are based at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Wales, Swansea. Please follow the links in the index to find more about us and what we do.

Sea Turtle Conservation Network of the Californias

seaturtle.org provides web design and space to the STCNC. The group was formed on 23 January 1999 at the office of the non-profit Grupo Ecologista de Antares, A.C. (GEA) in Loreto, BCS. Attendees included members of 5 fishing communities, government institutions, academia, non-profit organizations, lay people and tourists. The one-day meeting focused on sharing basic information on sea turtle biology, history of exploitation, nesting beach programs and the legal framework for their protection. In a discussion that emphasized the equality of each participant, moderated by GEA's director Fernando Arcas, the topics of incidental catch, illegal harvest and specific regional concerns were approached. The group voted to remain focused on community-based conservation, education and basic research and to encourage continuing involvement of fishing community members at future meetings. Projects for the group include the printing of a bilingual guide and poster to the sea turtles of the region, establishment of a sea turtle stranding and population monitoring networks, development of an educational internet webpage, a bilingual children's book, and an ongoing media campaign.

Chelonia Research Foundation

seaturtle.org provides web design and support to CRF. Their website is home to the international journal of turtle research, Chelonian Conservation and Biology, and Chelonian Research Monographs. Latest efforts include the introduction of the Turtle and Tortoise Newsletter, incorporating the IUCN Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group Newsletter and the Box Turtle Research and Conservation Newsletter, for which seaturtle.org's Executive Director serves as online coordinator. The TTN follows the model of the MTN and is available in print and electronic format.

HerpDigest

seaturtle.org provides web design and space to HerpDigest. Their website is home to the first free electronic newsletter dedicated only to reptile and amphibian conservation and science. Resources on the website include an archive of all past HerpDigest newsletters, a subscription service and a related links archive.
