Hawksbill with shark bite injury

Immature hawksbill 99-137 exhibiting recent shark bite injury. This animal was still intact when caught last year at Monito Island, Puerto Rico. It appeared severely injured during the 2009 survey at the same location. This turtle was first tagged by us at Monito in 1999. In recent years, sharks have been increasing in size and abundance at Mona and Monito Islands .
