The Belimbing Series-Prologue
I have been feeling 21 again for the past month [Alan Rees recently discovered that I wasn't in my early twenties, so I don?t have to worry about disappointing him with this some what age-revealing statement ;)]. This sense of rejuvenation was born on a trip to Papua, Indonesia, a region formerly known as Irian Jaya, for a leatherback nesting beach project. The region, the beach, the people, the experience, the diet, and even my suppurating wounds reminded me of my first sea turtle project in the Nicobar Islands at the age of 21. The next many blogs will span the different dimensions of this trip and project, and the memories they brought back from other beaches. I have decided to call these blogs the "Belimbing Series." "Belimbing" is the Indonesian word for the leatherback and signifies star fruit.
