My office freezer

This is what my office freezer now looks like after the decades of accumulated ice and the sea turtle eggshells and hatchlings that had been stored there for research purposes were removed! First, note the excellent brands of coffee :) Definitely support leatherback conservation and buy the Baulas Blend coffee, but if for some reason you have to buy non-sea turtle coffee, then I highly recommend Caffe Ibis – it is shade grown, organic, fair trade, and it is a most excellent coffee!! You will also observe a flying squirrel stored away in the far right corner of the freezer by some unknown zoology graduate student for some unknown purpose, but pay closer attention to the black blob stuck to the ceiling of the freezer. It appeared soon after all the ice and sea turtle stuff had been cleared out. It certainly startled me when I first noticed it. Even the Zoology Dept. secretary who unsuspectingly opened our freezer on one of her rare trips to the 6th floor admitted to shutting it hastily fearing she had released something dreadful into the department and to washing her hands many times. This bizarre blob was soon explained by the mammalogist in my office. Knowing the nature of people in academia, he was pretty certain that this freezer would not be defrosted again for many, many years till it was once more packed over with ice. So, he had very carefully placed a little plastic woolly mammoth on the ceiling of the freezer to let some unsuspecting zoologist, hacking away at the ice to clear some freezer space, relive the joys of the people who first discovered woolly mammoths buried in Siberian ice!!! Here’s a photo of the ceiling of our freezer:

Yes, I suppose we are biology geeks :)
