Apology

I admit it: I have a turtle tattoo. Tattoo.jpg

I was young, I was cold (it was the dead of winter in Toronto), and I clearly hadn't thought it through carefully. For starters, I put it on my back, so I have never really seen it. At the very least, this meant that I had to get one (or more) tattoos, in places where I could see them. But in the case of the my first tattoo, the design was a stylized turtle, brazenly lifted from a picture book of turtles. One thing that I have always wondered is why so many people who work with chelonians are driven to be tattooed with a turtle motif. I guess this is a two part question: why do we get tattooed? & why turtles? There have been many attempts to answer the first question (for example, look here), but the second answer remains elusive, at least to me. Interestingly, shark motifs also seem to be popular. I wonder if people who work with them tend to get tattoos.

For the curious, here are some examples of sea turtle tattoos (this is what I came up with in a random search on Google):

Example 1
Example 2
Example 3
Example 4

And a tattoo artist named "Turtle" (not for those with weak hearts)

Hmmmm...I wonder what tatoo motifs geologists, chemists, physicists, microbiologists, mathematicians, medical doctors prefer?

Well first of all, if I am not mistaken, the reson people ever got tattoos in the first place. Was as like war paint hundreds of years ago, as well as an identity of some sort, it was symbolic. Now why do I have a tattoo, because that is me. It is kinda symbolic in some ways. And yes every tattoo artist I have meet has tattoos. But if you are wondering why people have them, why do you have one?

I have a turtle tattoo and it is a tribal. I love turtles and couldnt imagine anything else on my body. My husband says we cant afford the Florida vacation that I wanted this year, so instead I am looking for my next series of tribal tats to be placed on the small of my back. I would like to stay with the same tribal theme. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I greatly apprecaite it.
You can view photos of my tattoo and me at the above URL.

I am interested in getting a colorful sea turtle tattoo, but I am a terrible artist. Does anyone have an idea where i can see some cool turtle drawings? and, will tattoo artists be willing to draw images for me, even if I am not sure I want to get tattoo'ed by them? OK-one more thing! what is the pain factor for tattoos on feet?

I want a sea turtle tattoo. I love turtles. Does that make me a sad person?

I have two turtle tattoos. One is Hawaiian tribal and the other is Japanese for turtle.
Right now I am looking for patterns to do a mosaic in my kitchen on the floor, counters, and walls. I thought of tattoos to give me ideas.

I'm also looking to get a sea turtle tattoo!! I want, just a small one, on my right foot. I'm very into herps and chelonias, but the Island I have visited in Thailand a number of times, and is my perfect place on Earth, when translated means "turtle island", and as our trip in March is likely to be our last there, I want a permanent reminder (Though I do already have a gecko tattoo I got there when I visited 3 years ago!!)..

And feet are meant to be *very* painful to tattoo *laughing* And even though I already have 4 tattoo's, this one will be small cos of the pain factor!!!

I have a turtle tattoo, drawn exactly like my real turtle Spice. I have 3 turtles, sugar, spice and pepper. I am crazy about turtles and proud of it!
Turtle power, YEAH!
:)

I have a tattoo of a loggerhead turtle on my arm. when wife was expecting my son we saw a picture of what a baby looks like at 9week and looked like a turtlw without its shell. so he was know as touch'e ( turtle ).

I love turtles and everyone thinks am nuts. I have turtle stuff all over my house and have been looking for the right one too get tatoo on my back. Not alot of people want or know how too do them. So am hoping some of these pics I got from the web sites listed can help me in my search for the right one Thanks alot.

Like all women, my wife has her animal of choice. You know, they pick one in Junior high school and think they have to collect every specimen of it they come across. Well, her's is turtles. I must admit, now, after being together for six years, I have become more obsessed with turtles than she has. I found out the hard way that she likes turtles which don't require care and maintainence; she would rather look at one on the shelf, and I would rather build a habitat and clean a tank. my point is, I'm am of Irish decent and have a one Celtic tattoo already, but I'm dying to find a fancy Celtic Turtle design that incorporates knotwork. The ones I've seen don't impress me. Does anyone have any sugestions?

Hey, I love turtles too! It kinda happened by accident, I was looking for a pet when I was in college, one I could hide from my R.A. at the dorms... I found a box turtle in a pet shop and the owner gave him to me. I named him aristotle and my love of the turtle began! I have a tattoo of a tribal turtle on my left shoulder blade and am seeing how I can incorperate it into a huge back piece that incompasses several different types of turtles... I got mine done in Austin at true Blue and the guy did an awsome job... Just wanted to share my love... People think I;m nuts but I finally found ppl who love them like me!!!

I love turtles!!!!!! So I finally decided to get one tatttooed on my back, and to tell you Idon't care what anybody thinks!!!!!!!
TURTLE POWER!!!!!!!!!

HINT, MY EMAIL ADDRESS.
I HAVE SEVERAL TURTLE TATTOS ON MY BODY.ARM,BACK LOWER SIDE OF MY HIP AND ONE ON THE END OF MY PENIS. THE REASON THAT I HAVE TURTLE TATTOO IS FOR YEARS I WENT AROUND WITH MY HEAD IN MY SHELL.
I DID NOT EVER WANT TO UPSET ANY ONE OR MAKE ANYONE MAD AND ALL THIS EVER GOT ME WAS THIS. I WAS MISERABLE IN SIDE AND THE CONSTANT WORRING ABOUT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THOUGHT ABOUT ME DROVE ME CRAZY. FINALLY AFTER ABOUT 35 YEARS OF WORRING I CAME TO THE COLD HARD FACT THAT I NEEDED TO BE HAPPY AND STOP WORRING ABOUT OTHERS SO MUCH.
I BROUGHT MY HEAD OUT OF IT SHELL AND GOT THE TATTOOS TO BE A FOREVER REMINDER TO ME.

I just got a tortoise tattooed on the lower inside of my left arm. It was very important to me to make sure it was a tortoise and not a turtle because I worked with Aldabra, leopard, and redfooted tortoises and I own a russian tort. At the same time I got a snake on the lower inside of my right arm. I also work with and own several different types of snakes. Both tattoos are celtic in style. They match the tattoos on my ankles in both color and style. The ones on my ankles are of a lion and a horse.

I am newly Tattooed with a Sea Turtle on my upper right thigh. It's about the size of a business card and in color. I was on vacation June 2005 in San Diego with no intentions of getting a tattoo. My friend, however, mentioned she was going to get one and had it all picked out. In a bonding sort of way I encouraged her to do it and said I would get one too. I have always liked turtles and in a split second I choose a Sea Turtle from a wildlife book and left it to the Tattoo artist to do his magic. Lucky for me he is a famous tattoo artist named NERVIO. I plan to add water and more sea life to my tattoo on next years trip.

I to am looking for a turtle tattoo they remind me of a quiet time i spent with my husband before he pased away. i would like to have it on my left foot.

I have a turtle tattoo on my left forearm.
I got it while I was in Airforce technical training school at Lowry AFB colorado.
I wanted a turtle tattoo and didn't know what to get. I happen to run across a huge indian tomtom in the Denver art museum which had a very simple turtle on it. I took a photo of it and had it tattooed on exactly as it looked on the tomtom.

I have others, but that is my only turtle tattoo.
I want a large one of an african spurred tortoise, but have not seen any or seen work by someone that does tattooing from photos that I trust just yet.

i am needing pictures of turtles for my first tattoo. i can not find one anywhere.

I just got my first one two months ago and it is a sea turtle. I love it and can't stop admiring it! I had pet turtles growing up and have loved turtles all my life. I plan to next get the Hawaiian Petroglyph version. I had wanted this tattoo for over three years but had a hard time finding any pictures of what I had in mind. I finally found a great tattoo artist who drew it exactly as I described. I will never use another artist.
