This is some welcome news from Walton County, Florida.
Walton to confiscate items left on beaches
"Starting Monday, the Sheriff’s Office and county Code Enforcement will patrol beaches to look for items that have been left unattended. Items left on the beach for an extended period of time or overnight will be tagged. Officials want to ensure that beaches are clear at night and in the early morning so county crews can perform beach maintenance and nesting sea turtles can come ashore to lay eggs."
I'm always amazed at all the stuff that people leave on the beach. Chairs, umbrellas, kayaks, and more! What do you think happens when a sea turtle runs into a beach chair? Or someone patrolling on an ATV hits the 4 foot deep hole you dug and left on the beach? Don't get me wrong. I love digging holes as much as the next dad, but I always fill in my holes.
The take home message, when individuals do not act responsibly they force others to regulate their behavior.
Do the right thing and there is no need for these kind of regulations. Unfortunately, because it has become such a problem, I have been hearing about more and more local ordinances with regard to beach furniture and hole digging. Fill in the holes you dig at the beach and take in your beach furniture, so turtles don't get stuck and beach patrols don't get hurt.
My parents visited last week after driving around the country for a couple of months. Their last stop before arriving was Muncie, Indiana, where they grew up and I spent some time as a yute. In any case...
they show up with chocolates from Ghyslain, which apparently is based in Indiana. I had never heard of it, but they swore by it AND they have a Turtle Collection of chocolates.
They are color coded by flavor. Four of the colors are show above.
Brown = almond
Red = pecan
Yellow = cashew
Blue = walnut
White = macadamia
Green = pistachio
I can confirm that they are quite good. You can check out their website if you are interested.
