Turtles on TV

SavetheseaturtlesI recently noticed that there are a number of children's television shows that feature sea turtles. The most noticeable is an episode of Go, Diego, Go! called "Save the Sea Turtles" that focuses on the leatherback sea turtle. I was able to TiVo it and get a copy. It's not too bad beyond the obvious short-coming that Diego rides the turtle, which seems to be a common theme in kids shows. I've also seen turtles on an episode of Clifford the Big Red Dog, and sea turtle like creatures on Dragon Tales (Can you tell I have young children?).

Anyway, this got me to wondering how many shows are out there that feature sea turtles...

So I put my TiVo to work. One of the nice features it has is to search for keywords in upcoming programs. So I have it searching for programs about "leatherback", "loggerhead" and "sea turtle". Here is what it has found so far:

Sorry, this first one is not very helpful as it is playing as I right this.

Blue Planet: Seas of Life - Open Ocean
Animal Planet, 31 Jan 2007, 8:00 pm (2002)

Where the sea bed drops a staggering eight kilometers and the nearest island is 500 kilometers away, there is nothing but the burning sun above and the blackened abyss below. Find out what life forms exist in this blue expanse.
Not a very helpful description. TiVo says:
Half-moon fish; loggerhead turtles; schools of sardines and tuna; vastness of the ocean.

Planet Action: Get Up & Do It! - Episode 1
Animal Planet, 4 Feb 2007, 12:00 pm (2006)

Our team travels to Panama to help conservation workers save the severly (sic, the misspelling is from the AP website) endangered leatherback turtle. Granted access to the nesting beach, the group must track turtles day and night to learn nesting habits and fit a turtle with a satellite transmitter.

Very annoying that I can't find anything about the Go, Diego, Go! shows on the Nickelodeon website, so this is a link to the only description of the episode I could find.

Go, Diego, Go! - Save the Sea Turtles
Nickelodeon, 8 Feb 2007, 12:00 pm (2006)

In "Save the Sea Turtles," Diego and his family are on a mission to rescue Tuga, the leatherback sea turtle, and help her lay her eggs.

Living Wild - Ocean Drifters
National Geographic Channel, 9 Feb 2007, 12:00 pm

Ocean Drifters follows the loggerhead on its magnificent voyage, in the process unlocking some of the secrets hidden in the world's oceans.

If you are interested in this sort of thing and would like me to post future shows leave a comment below. I may even do a few reviews of the shows.
